God's Love

In John 10:27-30, Jesus speaks words of profound assurance: “My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand.” These verses offer a deep well of comfort, reminding us that we are known, loved, and held securely in the hands of Christ.

For those of us in Aotearoa, where the land is rich with rolling pastures and sheep dot the countryside, the imagery of the Good Shepherd resonates in a particularly vivid way. We understand the relationship between a shepherd and their flock—the care, the guidance, the protection. Jesus is not a distant overseer but an intimately involved guardian, calling each of us by name, leading us toward life in its fullness.

The promise of eternal life is not merely about the future; it is about the present reality of being held in God’s love. In a world that often feels uncertain, where voices clamor for our attention and fears threaten to unsettle us, Jesus reminds us that we are secure. “No one will snatch them out of my hand.” This is not a conditional statement—it is a declaration of divine faithfulness. Our belonging to Christ is not fragile; it is anchored in the unbreakable unity between the Father and the Son.
